As I said on my "About Us" page, visiting the nursing home and seeing the joy that my dogs bring to the residents brings me far greater satisfaction than championships and obedience titles. I suspect that the dogs may enjoy it more, too!!!! I’ve visited with eight dogs over the years as well as taking many puppies in for visits.

Liesl & Jay Hanna
This is Schoental’s Fraulein Liesl, CD, my first therapy dog. This young man was in hospice and had done 4H obedience as a young teen. He enjoyed working Liesl during our visits. Liesl is the dam of 3 conformation Champions.

This is Schoental’s Hanna von Kelsey, CD, who also visits and graced the pages of the nursing home’s ad campaign.
Oskar & Liesl Oskar Oskar
This was the superstar, CH. Schoental’s Oskar, CDX, RE who had been a visitor since he was eight months old. Many years ago, Oskar “married” his mother, Liesl, in a ceremony for the residents. A real priest presided at the nuptials, rings were exchanged, a soloist from the Baltimore symphony sang, and a reception was held for residents and their families. Oskar dressed for all holidays and loves every minute of it!!! He celebrated his tenth birthday at the nursing home with balloons, birthday cake and presents. Oskar has been gone several years now and residents and staff are still missing him.

Oskar Oskar & Liesl
I still visit the nursing home and hospice weekly with Tressa and Freddie, who are my sixth and seventh therapy dogs. Both have been visiting since they were eight weeks old so the residents have a proprietary interest in them. They follow the show careers of the dogs and enjoy seeing rosettes and pictures from the shows. I'm proud to say Tressa has been awarded the AKC Therapy Dog title after making at least fifty visits!!!

Thomas Thomas
One of the most moving experiences in my eleven years of therapy work came recently when Tommy was asked to visit a woman with aphasia or lack of speech. The speech therapist was with her when Tommy entered the room. He put his big head in her lap and she looked at him and said "what a beautiful dog!!!" Everyone in the room was stunned and some were in tears as she continued to speak softy to Tommy.

This is Richard Ramsburg and Schoental's Fraulein Katerina visiting a nursing home! Kat also makes visits to the airport, library, and civic events. Thank you, Richard and Kat, for being such great ambassadors for the boxer breed!!
